When it comes to contracting, there are two main types of professionals you’ll work with: general contractors and subcontractors. While they might both be in charge of the construction or renovation project, they have different responsibilities and duties. So, what’s the difference? Let’s take a closer look.

General contractors are responsible for overall job management, including hiring and supervising subcontractors, ensuring that the project is completed on time and on budget, and dealing with any unexpected challenges that may arise. They typically have a wide range of experience in different areas of construction, which means they can be a one-stop shop for your contracting needs.

Subcontractors, on the other hand, are specialists in a particular trade. Typically a construction management company will have different teams of subcontractors for different jobs. Some of the time the teams are based on location of the job or subcontractor. Subcontractors skills level are all different. Sometimes you may hire guy’s that have just started to subcontract out on work, other times, you will get subcontractors that have 15 years experience.
